Things to do on site at Barker Stakes holidays

For the kids.

You can let your children run off some energy on our 2 play parks . The main play area is adjacent to Parkside and Woodsman lodges and has towers, slides, swings, climbing net, fire mans pole, seesaw. There is also a separate area for smaller children with mini climbing frame and double spring rocker.

The games area is also found here and has table tennis, table football and pool table in an open fronted barn.

You will find our second play area in the orchard with climbing net, slides, treehouse and tunnel.

For the athletic among you we have football nets available on the top field(you will need your own football).

We also have 800 yards of trout/grayling fly fishing onsite (close season 1st October to 24th March).

Animals

Come and see our friendly animals.

Fernando is the dominant alpaca with his friends Snowy and Rufus they live in a paddock opposite the Paddock lodges.

We have a group of pygmy goats harry and patch who are brothers along with Taddy, Stout and Alpine who used to live in a Sam Smiths pub and were named after beers. Our two cats Cocoa and cinder live in the goat shed but will visit anyone.

We have a collection of rabbits and guinea pigs in their own enclosure in the middle of the site.

Our horses Dolly ,Nell and the Shetland Hercules have stables and paddocks beyond the orchard.

Wildlife

Take a stroll through the Orchard, past the stables and down by the pond where you will find an abundance of wildlife. on a regular basis you will see ducks, moorhens, pheasants herons .Swans and geese often stop by on the pond for a rest You may also see , deer , kingfishers, buzzards and even on very rare occasions an elusive otter .

Fishing

We have 800 yards of fly fishing on Pickering Beck. This stretches from the pack horse bridge to the paddock opposite our main entrance . It is stocked with brown trout and grayling. You will need your own equipment and a rod licence and it is catch and release.

We did stock our pond with tench unfortunately an otter has now wiped out our stocks.

Just back from our 4th stay at Barker Stakes Farm. The lodges are clean and spacious and have everything you need. Very good location especially for Visiting North Yorkshire Moors Railway. The Farm has a great childrens play area and a few animals that my children loved. Thanks for a great stay.

☺We have stayed several times and enjoy it every time. So peaceful, home from home. Great location to see the Yorkshire area. ☹The location, the cottages are clean and comfortable. Wonderful place to stay especially with kids. We had a great, relaxing weekend at the farm. There’s lots for everyone to do. We especially loved visiting the animals and taking advantage of the big football field. The hot tub was definitely a highlight of our stay. The place could be a little cleaner and furniture upgraded as we spotted some cobwebs in the lodge, marks on the wall and rips in sofa etc but it’s a farm and good value for money. We weren’t bothered about it at all but if you need your place to be squeaky clean and modern then it might not be for you. It is in a good location for local walks and trips to the east coast. ☺Having stayed here before this was our 1st choice when visiting the area. The hosts can't do enough for you. The children's area is fab, the animals, the football field. Everything you could possibly need. The list is endless. Perfect for families with young children.  Having the hot tub was just great. The view of the lake was amazing. Can't wait to return

The best stay ☺We loved it and our dog loved the place.  What a lovely spacious glamping pod, and lovely people who run it.  A slice of heaven, happiness, relaxing and peaceful.  Great location.  I feel really good after visiting this place.

Stayed Friday - Monday and honestly can’t fault the place it was so tranquil and a lovely location the staff were very h ☺Beautiful place so peaceful perfect t location very clean. ☹The only thing would be a little shelf on the bathroom wall so when doing make up etc but cannot fault the place

Fantastic Birthday stay ☺The layout of the lodges is excellent, so noone was over looked. The location was peaceful and a close drive to villages such as Pickering and Thornton le dale, and flamingo land. The animals all looked well looked after, happy and friendly. Despite their closeness there was non of the normal farm smell. The hot tub was great after a day's walking and the play barn actives were an added bonus. The owners were very approachable and accommodating. This was a great stay for my son's 7th birthday! We will definitely book again ☹N/a

Simply amazing couldn’t have asked for better ☺The property was amazing it was such a lovely retreat and perfect for the weekend stay we were after it had everything even towels washing up liquid and cleaning equipment which you don’t often see at a self catering facility the site had everything you would want for children animals, play park and lots of space for the children to run around I don’t normally write reviews but felt this one needed one 5 stars and more ☹Nothing to report
