Things to do on site at Barker Stakes holidays
For the kids.
You can let your children run off some energy on our 2 play parks . The main play area is adjacent to Parkside and Woodsman lodges and has towers, slides, swings, climbing net, fire mans pole, seesaw. There is also a separate area for smaller children with mini climbing frame and double spring rocker.
The games area is also found here and has table tennis, table football and pool table in an open fronted barn.
You will find our second play area in the orchard with climbing net, slides, treehouse and tunnel.
For the athletic among you we have football nets available on the top field(you will need your own football).
We also have 800 yards of trout/grayling fly fishing onsite (close season 1st October to 24th March).
Animals
Come and see our friendly animals.
Fernando is the dominant alpaca with his friends Snowy and Rufus they live in a paddock opposite the Paddock lodges.
We have a group of pygmy goats harry and patch who are brothers along with Taddy, Stout and Alpine who used to live in a Sam Smiths pub and were named after beers. Our two cats Cocoa and cinder live in the goat shed but will visit anyone.
We have a collection of rabbits and guinea pigs in their own enclosure in the middle of the site.
Our horses Dolly ,Nell and the Shetland Hercules have stables and paddocks beyond the orchard.
Wildlife
Take a stroll through the Orchard, past the stables and down by the pond where you will find an abundance of wildlife. on a regular basis you will see ducks, moorhens, pheasants herons .Swans and geese often stop by on the pond for a rest You may also see , deer , kingfishers, buzzards and even on very rare occasions an elusive otter .
Fishing
We have 800 yards of fly fishing on Pickering Beck. This stretches from the pack horse bridge to the paddock opposite our main entrance . It is stocked with brown trout and grayling. You will need your own equipment and a rod licence and it is catch and release.
We did stock our pond with tench unfortunately an otter has now wiped out our stocks.
